  • Poetry Stroll

    Please join us this Wednesday for our Poetry Stroll. We have been working hard to create poems of all types. The stroll is open from 6:00 - 7:00.  The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open for your shopping pleasure!

  • Reading Week

    Next week we will be celebrating Reading Week with many fun activities! On Thursday, April 13th children are invited to dress as their favorite character.  We are looking forward to seeing your creativity shine through!

  • Valentine's Day

    Dear Families, If your child would like to bring in Valentines for the class, they may.  We have 20 students.  Please ensure that your child brings one for each student.  Some alternatives to candy are: erasers, pencils, stickers, or a card.  Thank you.

  • Google in the Classroom!

    Each week, Mrs. Kenyon, our Library-Media specialist, is coming to our classroom with the Chromebooks!  She is teaching us how to use Google Docs.  So far, we have learned how to open, title, and share a document.  We will be using these new skills to publish our animal reports.  We can't wait to share the final products with you!

  • Language Arts Update

    The first quarter is coming to an end.  In reading, we have focused on choosing books at each child's own level, building stamina to read and concentrate for longer periods of time and analyzing fiction.  In writing, we have learned how to generate ideas, add sensory details and the important elements of a personal narrative.  Our focus in word work has been on reviewing the syllable types and how to spell words with suffixes.  We will continue to build on all of these skills in the next…

  • Book Fair

    Our class will be attending the Scholastic Book Fair on Wednesday.  Please send your child's money in an envelope with his or her name on it.

    Weekly math homework will be assigned every Monday.  Assignments are due on Fridays. Please let me know if you have any questions.

  • Class Dojo

    At the end of the day, students reflect on their day and decide how to check in. Positive feedback acknowledges their strength for the day. Needs work can serve as a goal for the next day or upcoming week.

  • xtra Math

    This week, I sent home a flyer about Xtra Math.  This online resource helps build fact fluency by identifying known and unknown facts. Once your child masters the addition facts, they will move on to subtraction.  Please let me know if you are unable to use the program at home.  I can make sure your child has extra opportunities to use it in class.  The flyer says you can download an app for $5.  Please do not pay for this.     Reading Just Right Books

    In class, we will be discussing how to identify a book that is "just right".  A just right book is neither too hard nor too easy.  It is a book we can read fluently and comprehend the text.  A just right book may have a few words that we may not recognize but by using our strategies, we can figure out the unknown words.  When your child is reading at home ask them what level their book is.  If it is too hard or a look book (your child will know what this means)  read it together or suggest they find another book.  Children are also encouraged to read a variety of both fiction and nonfiction text. …
